History of the UEFA Euro
As international soccer tournaments go, the European Championships (often known simply as the Euros) are a relatively new event, first hosted in 1958.
Fifty-five teams can qualify for the event, with 24 places up for grabs at the finals. In 2016, the format was expanded to allow more teams to compete in the showcase event every four years.

Euro 2024 saw Spain become champions once again as they beat England 2-1 in the final. England reached their 2nd final in successive Euro tournaments but fell short as they sought to lift the trophy for the first time in their history.
On their way to the final, Spain had a tough run, beating defending champions Italy, hosts Germany and 2-time winners France. Impressive performances from players such as Dani Olmo, Rodri, Nico Williams, and teenager Lamine Yamal had most fans agreeing they deserved to win.

Qualifying for the UEFA Euro 2028 competition will involve 12 groups of 4 or 5 teams. The games will take place between March to November 2027, and group winners automatically qualify.
